MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging)

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is a non-invasive medical imaging technique used to produce detailed images of the inside of the body. It helps clinicians view organs, soft tissues, bones, and other internal structures with high clarity, without using ionizing radiation.

MRI works by using a strong magnetic field and radio waves to generate signals from hydrogen atoms in the body. These signals are processed by a computer to create detailed cross-sectional images. Because different tissues respond differently to the magnetic field, MRI can clearly distinguish between structures such as muscle, fat, nerves, and organs.

During an MRI scan, the patient lies inside a large, tube-shaped scanner. The procedure is painless but requires the patient to remain still to ensure clear images. The machine may produce loud tapping or thumping sounds during scanning, and ear protection is usually provided. In some cases, a contrast agent may be injected into a vein to enhance image detail.

MRI is commonly used to evaluate the brain, spine, joints, abdomen, and blood vessels. It is particularly useful for identifying abnormalities in soft tissues that may not be clearly visible on other imaging tests.

It is a safe and highly effective diagnostic tool that provides detailed internal images, helping healthcare providers assess a wide range of medical conditions accurately.
