X-RAY Imaging

X-ray imaging is a widely used diagnostic tool that allows healthcare providers to view the inside of the body, particularly bones and certain organs. It is one of the fastest and most commonly performed imaging techniques in medicine.

X-rays work by passing a small, controlled amount of radiation through the body. Different tissues absorb radiation at different levels. Dense structures like bones absorb more X-rays and appear white on the image, while softer tissues allow more radiation to pass through and appear in shades of gray or black.

During an X-ray examination, the patient is positioned between the X-ray machine and a detector. The procedure is quick, painless, and usually takes only a few minutes. Patients may be asked to remain still or hold their breath briefly to ensure clear images.

X-ray imaging is commonly used to evaluate bone fractures, joint problems, chest conditions, dental issues, and certain abdominal concerns. It is often one of the first imaging tests ordered due to its speed and availability.

While X-rays involve exposure to a small amount of radiation, the levels are generally low and considered safe when used appropriately. Protective measures, such as lead shields, may be used to minimize exposure when necessary.
