General Surgery

General surgery is a medical specialty focused on the surgical treatment of diseases, injuries, and conditions affecting many different parts of the body. Despite the name, “general” surgeons often specialize in procedures involving the abdomen and its organs, including the stomach, intestines, liver, gallbladder, and appendix. They also commonly treat hernias, skin and soft tissue conditions, and trauma-related injuries.

General surgeons are trained to evaluate patients before surgery, perform operative procedures, and provide post-operative care. Their work involves both planned (elective) surgeries, such as gallbladder removal, and emergency operations, such as treating appendicitis or internal bleeding. They must be skilled in making quick decisions, managing complications, and coordinating care with other medical teams when needed.
